Hundreds of children took to the stage at the Hexagon on Sunday in celebration of HM The Queen as part of Wokingham Area Schools Music Association.
WASMA returned to the Reading theatre for ‘Happy and Glorious’, a celebration of the life of our former monarch.
One of the schools that took part was Lambs Lane Primary in Spencers Wood. A total of 28 children from years three to six performed music, drama, poetry and dance. They have been rehearsing for months and Sunday was the culmination of all their hard work, with a full rehearsal in the afternoon, followed by a performance for family and friends in the evening.
Mrs Megan Morrison, music lead for Lambs Lane said: “The children worked really hard and were very enthusiastic. They were very proud of themselves. There were some incredible solo performances from all the schools involved. It takes a lot of courage to stand on a big stage like the Hexagon and perform.
“Afterwards one parent said how special it had been that their child was able to experience performing in a real theatre in front of such a large audience.”
WASMA continues to provide opportunities for pupils in Wokingham schools to make music together. The event is organised by the schools for the schools, involving nearly 800 children from a large proportion of the primary and junior schools in the area.
The two productions will provide an opportunity for a total of 760 children from 29 Wokingham primary schools to experience performing in a professional theatre – something that the children will remember for many years to come.
Sunday’s concert included children from Addington, Bearwood, Earley St Peter’s, Evendons, Farley Hill, Grazeley, Hawthorns, Highwood, Keep Hatch, Lambs Lane, Loddon, Nine Mile Ride, Oaklands, Radstock and St Cecilia’s.
There will be a second concert this Sunday featuring children from Aldryngton, Colleton, Emmbrook, Finchampstead, Montague Park, Gorse Ride, Hawkedon, Polehampton, Robert Piggott, St Dominic Savio, St Nicholas, Wheatfield and Willow Bank.
