Berkshire Orienteers (BKO) invite you to the twisty, maze-y streets of the Woosehill Estate on Saturday the 19th August for some local-level orienteering fun. Fancy an urban run with a twist? Run, jog or just go at your own pace and see if you can ‘Waltz around Woosehill’.
New to orienteering? It’s a fun opportunity to try it – it’s a race with a twist as the courses are marked by a series of checkpoints around the estate – you have to navigate your own way around the course as fast as you can using a special map to find the checkpoints (or ‘controls’).
Think of it as a competitive treasure hunt… The checkpoints might be along paths, or hidden in the numerous cul-de-sacs and cut-throughs around the estate all of which will be marked on your detailed map. Organisers offer chip timing, staggered starts and plenty of help for newcomers available.
Old hand? You can run competitively or just for the fun of it in this challenging urban setting. It is the first time Woosehill has ever been used for an urban event, so you are guaranteed a PB!
The cost is seniors £5 (non British Orienteering members £6), juniors £2.50 (non BO members £3).
Dibber hire is £2 for seniors, free for juniors and groups going round together only pay one entry fee.
Pre-entry only. Starts from 10:30am. Parking is in Chestnut Park. Entrance is via Ruskin Way.
There is additional parking by the adjacent day nursery for large vehicles

Why not say you’re going on there, invite some friends and see who can get lost the least.
Berkshire Orienteers (BKO) is the orienteering club for Berkshire and surrounding areas, including the towns of Reading, Wokingham, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Slough, Windsor and Newbury and their immediate locations together with some members from the northern parts of Hampshire and Surrey. Orienteering is an exciting, challenging sport. It involves competitive navigation using a map and compass – competitors choose their own way between control points. Most orienteering takes place in woodland or on open hillsides, but can also take place in school playgrounds and urban parks.
