People from Bracknell and Wokingham joined a peaceful rally ‘in solidarity of the people of Palestine’ at the weekend.
The rally was organised by the Reading Muslim community organisation. It was aimed at bringing the community together to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and raise awareness about the ongoing humanitarian issues in the region.
The Rally For Palestine served as a platform for individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together in support of justice, peace, and dignity for the Palestinian people. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in peaceful demonstrations, listen to insightful speakers, and participate in activities that foster greater understanding and empathy for the Palestinian cause.
The ongoing armed conflict between Palestinian militant groups led by Hamas and Israel began on 7 October 2023 with a coordinated surprise offensive on Israel. The attack began in the morning with a barrage of at least 5,000 rockets launched from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip against Israel.
Some 2,500 Palestinian militants breached the Gaza–Israel barrier and attacked
civilian communities and IDF military bases near the Gaza Strip. At least 1,400 Israelis were killed, including 260 people at a music festival in Re’im. Unarmed civilian hostages and captured Israeli soldiers were taken to the Gaza Strip, including women and children.
The Gaza–Israel conflict has been ongoing since 2006.
