The Ministry of Defence’s nuclear weapons research facility, the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), has unveiled an exciting opportunity for apprenticeships aimed at “critically important” security work. Located in Reading, Berkshire, the AWE Data Skills Academy will offer a comprehensive 15-month training program. Participants will gain proficiency in data wrangling and analysis techniques, crucial skills for supporting national security efforts.
The academy’s curriculum, delivered in collaboration with tech company Multiverse, is designed to attract candidates from diverse backgrounds. Unlike traditional apprenticeships, there are no specific grade requirements, and individuals without a university degree are encouraged to apply. This inclusive approach aims to ensure that the program is accessible to a wide range of talented individuals interested in making a difference.
Successful apprentices will have the opportunity to contribute to the vital task of “keeping our country safe and secure,” as emphasized by an AWE spokesperson. This program is particularly relevant as AWE has been at the forefront of developing, manufacturing, and maintaining warheads for the UK’s nuclear deterrent for over 70 years.
