Armed Police from Thames Valley Police were deployed to the Sportsman Pub and Linden Road area after two men suffered serious injuries after it’s believed they were both stabbed. Overnight the entire area was cordoned off with heavily armed Police officers warning people to stay away. The officers attended with dogs and cordoned off the Sportsman Pub.
Thames Valley Police authorised A Section 60 following two stabbings at a public house in Whitley, Reading allowing greater powers to Stop and Search
Officers were called to a disorder at around 11.34pm yesterday (28/10) at the Sportsman Public House, Shinfield Road, where two men suffered serious injuries after it’s believed they were both stabbed. Both men remain in hospital in a serious condition. One man has been arrested in connection with this incident and remains in police custody at this time. An investigation is ongoing following this incident and a Section 60 has been authorised which allows officers greater powers to Stop and Search.

The Section 60 was started at 5.20am today (29/10) and will run for 24 hours, but may be extended.
It covers the following roads (shown in map);
Shinfield Road, Pepper Lane, Elm Road, Elm Lane, Rushey Way, footpath between Rushey Way and Valentine Close, Valentine Close, Halls Lane, Shinfield Road, Whitley Wood Road, Hartland Road, Northumberland Avenue and Cressingham Road.
Inspector Sarah-Jayne Beedall based at Reading police station, said: “We have authorised a Section 60 in order to reduce the chance of further disorder following this serious incident in Whitley.
“The Section 60 allows greater powers to Stop and Search and members of the public will see an increased police presence.
“An investigation is ongoing and one man has been arrested in connection, he remains in police custody at this time.
