ITV News presenter Rageh Omaar is currently under medical supervision following an incident during a live broadcast, the network has confirmed.
Omaar, aged 56, was hosting the News at Ten program last Friday when he appeared to encounter difficulties in delivering the news updates, prompting concern among viewers.
Known for his role as the international affairs editor at ITV News and his past work as a foreign correspondent for the BBC, Omaar’s sudden health issue during the broadcast raised widespread attention on social media.
“We are aware of the audience’s concern for Rageh Omaar’s well-being,” stated a spokesperson for ITV News. “During the presentation of News at Ten on Friday, Rageh experienced a health issue and is currently receiving medical attention. He appreciates the outpouring of support.”
Although specific details regarding Omaar’s condition or the nature of the incident were not disclosed, ITV opted to suspend the scheduled re-runs of the program on ITV+1, replacing it with a message informing viewers of a temporary interruption in service.
“We will resume shortly,” assured the notice.
Omaar gained prominence for his coverage of the Iraq War in 2003 while with the BBC and has since become recognized for his reporting on significant global events for ITV News, alongside hosting the current affairs program On Assignment.
The network reiterated that Omaar is under medical care and expressed gratitude for the well-wishes extended by concerned viewers.
