Thames Hospice has been serving the community for more than 35 years, they are now a leading UK Hospice providing inpatient and community palliative and end-of-life care services. They have been present in Woodley at smaller premises just across the road from the new one for over 14 years. The new premises are located (where the old Barclays Bank used to be) at 184 to 192 Crockhamwell Road, Woodley, Reading, and look twice the size as the old one. The new shop was brimming with Christmas gifts and attracted a small crowd who were keen to see the new shop and make a purchase. The celebrations included refreshments and glasses of fizz and a cutting of celebration cake

Woodley Town Mayor Janet Sartorel’s speech
“I’ve been told that Thames Hospice has had a presence on the high street for 14 years as. And this shop is one of 22 across the Thames Valley region, which helps to raise vital income to support the work of the charity, and it helps care for local families facing terminal illness. Thames Hospice supports thousands of patients and their loved ones each year and is free of charge for every single person who needs it. But sadly, it’s not free to run. I am told it costs approximately £16 million to run services both at the hospice and in people’s homes. So, therefore, if you can, please support this wonderful charity by popping in to buy something or donate your pre-loved items so the hospice can continue its fantastic work. Every single penny through the till makes a huge difference.
I’ve had a sneak peek at the shop already and I should be having another bigger peak in a minute. There are some fantastic items in there, some of which will be amazing Christmas presents.
So I’m now delighted and honored to cut the ribbon with Julie Rowley. She’s the Director of Retail, along with the team, and officially declare this shop open. And I hope that you really do enjoy the new shop”
